Men are trash,right??
#menaretrash has been trending for the past few days on social media, in South Africa. This mainly rising from the murder of Karabo Mokoena by her ex-boyfriend, who was arrested yesterday, after confessing to murdering and then burning her. While in the comments of a post surrounding the details of her murder on Facebook, I stumbled upon a rather disturbing comment, '"I know we wouldn't be making such a big deal about this if she wasn't lightskinned.".... Really?? And mind you, this was coming from a female.
Yes, #menaretrash. There are a lot of posts that really explain this argument for what it truly is, (I'll attach a screen shot of a post or two on #menaretrash) and I don't think there's anything I could add to it. But one thing this comment brought to my mind is that us as women are sometimes "trash"to each other. Before you get mad, yes #meanaretrash - again. But ladies, don't you think we get enough bad vibes from the opposite sex, why are we adding to the negativity among ourselves. This comment was completely inhumane and uncalled for because a life has been lost and a family's lives turned up-side-down HOWEVER this comment was definitely accompanied by anger not to Karabo directly, but to anyone who had overlooked or even verbally abused the girl who made the comment, because of how much her melanin pops. And now she has formed some sort of hatred towards the "person"society says she should look like.
LADIES UNITE!!! Let's fight the real enemy, and not each other. Let's (including myself because I sometimes partake in such gossip) stop with the, "Yeah, she's pretty. But clearly we can't have everything, her legs are way too skinny."", "Guys only like her because she's easy.", ''If she wasn't lightskinned, she wouldn't be pretty.", and so the list continues. Let's build each other up and deal with the real enemy head on.
