Is my hair even considered "natural" or is it just a fro?

One week until VAC!!!! YASSSS... I'm so excited for this holiday for two main reasons, UCT has put me through the utmost this semester (ie. constant umgowo), so this rest is long overdue but mainly because I can finally get my IG up and running (with my own pictures of beautiful melanacious Kings and Queens, unedited with the hair texture many South Africans have but we hardly see online). I would recommend that you follow my IG @naturallywoke, if you want to #CONSENT...so you're most likely not gonna do it. Mxm, fine I'm having a giveaway at 200 followers, mus' you guys like free things. So go and follow and tell your mama and that neighbour that stays in your business to follow me, @naturallywoke on IG.

Please remember this in 2 years, I will make sure that our hair texture is recognised for its beauty, in ALL forms of media. I will have a separate post for this matter, but lemme just give you a trailer. The natural hair community has come a long way with relaxer sales diminishing exponentially ("ohhhh Mrs. Besener"-my maths teacher, "I guess we do use maths in the real world"). However, the only "natural hair" that is being commercialised and being showed love is that of loose, bouncy curls I'm not gonna hate it is beautiful too). BEFORE you get your mad, ask yourself #BlackLivesMatter VS #AllLivesMatter.

SO don't tell anyone, neh? But when I cut my hair after transitioning it for 8 months, I cried and got it braided away the very next morning. Why? As previously mentioned I watched natural hair videos religiously before going fully natural and my hair looked nothing like anything I'd ever seen in over 100 youtubes videos. DOLOLO curl pattern, bruhhh. Anyway, only recently have I accepted that this is my hurrr and it, I mean she, is amazing regardless. and this is why I want ALL the pictures that I put out there to represent the underrepresented group of kinky, coily, "patternless" natural headed beauties. Oh btw if you live in the CPT area and your hair fits that criteria-slide into the DM's (IG:@naturallywoke), like I said I'm gonna do the things this vac, so if you wanna collab- HALLA!

(Side note: On a point of order, honourables,  idk how I can get 100+ reads on my posts (85% from South Africans) but like zero followers on IG and the followers I do get are mainly from Americans and British people (I really appreciate it though, you guys are the real MVPs). In ALL honesty for this to work I need my fellow South Africans to engage with my IG- please go follow and get atleast 1 other naturalista to do the same https://www.instagram.com/naturallywoke/ - THANKS)

Stay WOKE

  1. Everyone has a curl pattern. The only reason why ours is not truly defined its because of the dry weather South Africa has and its Climate. But besides that factor, our genes play a vital role and just because it's not as curl defined it does not mean we are not natural or any-less. Please continue using your platform to raise these stupid misconceptions and address them...this is truly mind boggling!
